Pediatric Dentistry: What to Expect
Your youngsters will feel very safe and welcome in our practice, and our dental team knows all the tricks of the trade to keep them calm during their dental appointments. We offer a number of amenities to ensure their comfort, and our team has been working with kids of all ages for a long time. Going to the dentist—especially for the first time—can be a scary experience, but your kids won’t be frightened at Barton Oaks Dental Group.
Parents can rest assured that the five Austin pediatric dentists at Barton Oaks Dental Group can offer their kiddos a full range of services.
- Air Abrasion: Micro air abrasion allows us to fill teeth without using drills! That is excellent news for most people, especially the little ones. Instead of spinning drill elements, micro air abrasion uses a concentrated blast of air that contains very fine particles of aluminum oxide, a common ingredient in many types of toothpaste.Working in a method similar to a sandblaster, air abrasion blasts away the decay and leaves healthy tooth material intact. Air abrasion results in greater conservation of your natural tooth structure and helps to keep the tooth healthy and strong. Because micro air abrasion uses a simple air spray and powder, it is minimally invasive, gentle, quiet, and fast. Your kids won’t even know what happened!
- Fluoride
- Instruction and education about good oral hygiene.
- Fissure dental sealants: A sealant is a preventive dental treatment our dentists may recommend to protect patients’ teeth from decay. A dental sealant is made of a clear or tooth-colored resin material, which is painted onto the chewing surface of teeth. By blocking out the bacteria and food debris that lead to tooth decay, the sealant prevents decay and cavities. The dental sealant forms a smooth coating over the natural pits and grooves of the tooth surface, making it easier to clean teeth with normal brushing. Dental sealants are most often recommended for children.
- Management of avulsed and traumatized teeth
- Mouth guards
- Restorative dentistry for children
- Early orthodontic evaluation and space maintenance

Your Child’s First Visit
We are pleased to provide Austin pediatric dentistry to help you keep your child’s smile healthy. We encourage you to bring your child to our office every six months for a regular dental exam and cleaning. During this visit, our friendly dentists and team will gently clean your child’s teeth and check for signs of dental problems, such as tooth decay.
Each team member is caring and gentle, and we are practiced at making children feel comfortable. We understand that it is important to build a positive, trusting relationship between your child and all of their doctors at a young age, and we are dedicated to ensuring that your child feels comfortable and safe at our office. If you have any questions about your child’s dental health or oral development, we welcome you to ask us during the visit or call in with questions.
In addition to bringing your child to our office for regular checkups, you must help your child establish good oral hygiene habits at home. Teach your child to brush and floss their teeth every day and help them maintain a balanced, healthy diet. Our Austin pediatric dentists will explain brushing and flossing techniques in ways kids can really understand, and we will make them excited about their next dental visit by showing them how fun dental care can be.
